[Book Review] Fight by Rowen Black (Knightwood Academy Book 2)

     Fight by Rowen Black

Coming back to the school was not something I was looking forward to. With my secret still hanging over me and the impending visit from King Blaine shadowing me every day, the stress is taking hold of me.

What I don’t expect is for the unexpected arrival of a swordsman, which forces me to throw caution to the wind and fight to protect him.

Trials are much harder this year and with Vespin starting his advance to Blaine's land, everything is heating up, and not just the war.

More surprises makes me unsteady and my budding relationships falter. Will I say yes to save to save them?

Trigger Warning: Fight contains M/M and F/M/M there will be triggering elements of abuse. This is also a Reverse Harem which means the Heroine does not have to choose between love interests. There will be lots of steam in this book as well.

Fight picks up right where we left off in Survival. So, essentially, the big cliffhanger gets answered right in the first chapter, and the payoff is worth the wait. Fight covers year 2 of Knightwood Academy. When Raven returns to the Academy, she has a few goals. One, she will tell her guys that she is a woman, and two, she needs to continue working on the inside to overthrow King Blaine. But, there is a wrench thrown in her plans when a young boy from Vulture Bay is chosen as the next Swordsman for year one. Raven must rescue the boy, all while maintaining her sanity and the seven men she is fated to.

Year 2 of the Knightwood Academy ups the spice and the plot. Raven becomes closer to her men, and more characters are introduced to add to the storyline. The dialogue is more casual and flows better than book one. The relationships grow and the characters are becoming more unique. We are able to see more of Vespin and Raven's relationship in this one as well. I think Raven has incredible chemistry with all of her men, which can be hard to do with so many men being in her harem. We also meet new characters and get their POV as well, which adds more depth to the story.

Overall, I really enjoyed this sequel. There are many parts going on in the plot all at the same time, which can be a bit confusing. But, I am sure that the payout will be worth it in the end. I am really excited to see how everything ties together, and to see what is to happen after that shocking plot twist/cliffhanger at the end.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC of this book. My opinions are of my own and I was not obligated to provide a review.

GIUSEPPINA

I was never supposed to meet him, but one fateful night had him saving my life.

Now he thinks he owns me. I’m his to keep.

He’s ruthless, cold, and a killer, but something draws me to him anyway.

I know what he’s capable of. I know he was meant to kill me. And I know one wrong slip may make him change his mind about sparing my life.

But I want to test him, push him, be a part of his world.

I know I should be afraid. I know I should run. But something about Darragh has taken me over, and I don’t know how long I can resist . . .

______

A hitman.
A princess.
A forbidden romance.

All her life, Giuseppina Delarosa knew two things: what her father and brother did after dark was a secret, and her life was never her own. As the sole daughter of Don Delarosa’s clan, it was well known a marriage would secure the future of the family. But when she learns she’s to be wed to an infamous ally, Giuseppina has other plans.

Darragh O’Callaghan is good at exactly two things: not caring about anyone, and killing his enemies. The only Irish mafia in the city needs good enforcers to keep their borders, and Darragh does his job well. So he can’t understand why he screws it all up when a hit is placed on the Delarosa gang’s prime jewel: Giuseppina Delarosa.

One rainy night.
One decision not to kill.
One moment that changes everything.

Hit is a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, dark mafia romance. It is book one in the Mafia Born Duet.

This was my first delve into mafia romance and it did not disappoint. Pina has been hidden away for 22 years so that she can be used as a pawn one day by her Italian mafia boss father. The day has come, and it's even worse than she thought. So, she gets a chance to run away and she does. But, along the way, she is intercepted by the Irish Hit man sent to kill her.

This is a slow burn, so there is tension throughout. But, Pina and Darragh have incredible chemistry, so it was a great build up. I loved the way Pina was able to grow into herself and become tough and less of a damsel in distress.  Her character development is fantastic. Darragh has an amazing backstory and I loved how he was able to be shaped into the man he was at the end: no longer just a Hit man.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, but that cliffhanger is a doozy. I'll be anxiously awaiting the next book in the duet! I would recommend this to anyone that wants to dive into the world of mafia romances; it's a great starter book and there's definitely some spice towards the end!

Jim Panzee, our favorite #1 New York Times bestselling grumpy monkey, is feeling like quite the Scrooge this holiday season!

It's Christmas time in the jungle, and Jim just can't get into the holiday spirit. Then Norman offers Jim a festive green banana and Jim feels sick, making everything seem worse. All the other animals in the jungle are ready and eagerly awaiting Christmas, but Jim feels everything stinks. Norman tries to find the solution...and shows Jim that everything can be solved with a soothing cup of tea and time spent with a good friend.

I don't normally review kid's books, but I saw this book and thought of my 22 month old son! So, I had to pick it up. The pictures in this book are beautifully illustrated and I loved every single one! The book did not hold my son's attention as long as I would have liked, but I think that may be due to age, and not the quality of the content. I really enjoyed the fact that the book highlights that we need to be able to see the good in life, and not just the bad. We can't always see the good if we are constantly complaining. I also really liked that the book highlighted things to be thankful for during the Holidays.

Overall, I would recommend this to parents that want a Christmas themed book that also teaches kids ways to be thankful. It does have lengthier sentences, so I would recommend more to the 3+ age range. The illustrations are wonderful, and the lessons are fantastic.
