[Series Review] Adamson All-Boys Academy by C.M. Stunich

***THE SECRET GIRL is a 90,000 word lighthearted reverse harem/high school bully romance novel with a mystery/suspense twist. This is book one of three in the series. Contains foul language and sexual scenes; any sex featured is consensual.

I've said it before, and I will say it again, the academy trope is one of my favorites. I haven't found many books with this trope that I don't like, and this series wasn't the exception. I normally do individual book reviews, but I flew through this series so fast that I decided to do a series review instead. The series starts out as a lighthearted bully romance and ends in a mystery/reverse harem. I didn't hate it. 

The mystery in the series was nice because it kept the book fairly fast paced. The romance was great between the characters, but the mystery just added another level. And, on top of that, the main female character pretended to be a boy in an all boys school for most of the series. So, that plotline added another layer into the series. Romance starts in book one and then the spice just increases throughout the series, which was also a plus.

I loved all the characters in this series. The main female character, Charlotte aka Chuck, was a bit annoying in the first half of book one, but she's written this way so that her character has growth. Ranger and Church were my favorites because they had the most layers out of the other guys, but Tobias, Micah and Spencer were all in a close second. I enjoyed everyone in the reverse harem, and there was a great mix of personalities. Ranger was the emo kid that loves cute things, Church was stoic and reserved on the outside but multilayered on the inside, Micah was sharper than his twin Tobias but just as sweet, and Spencer was the flirt and the cinnamon roll of the group.

If I had to criticize anything about this series I would have to say that sometimes the end of the chapters read like a diary from Charlottes POV. This was kind of odd, and threw me off a bit sometimes, but it wasn't enough to detract from the series as a whole. Overall, I would say that this series is five stars (aka five iced coffees) for me, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to dip their toes into a lighthearted bully reverse harem romance. It's a good starter series for bully romance.

[Book Review] Zodiac Academy: Cursed Fates (Book 5)

 

After the devastating events at Zodiac Academy, we have to deal with this darker world we're faced with.
Lionel seeks to hurt us, the Nymphs seek to hurt the entire Fae race, and between all of it, we just have to try and survive each day as it comes.
I'm afraid of everything falling apart, but it looks like it already has.

This book put me through the emotional ringer on all accounts. There were times when I felt elated, and then there were other times where I felt rage, hopelessness, and fear. This book has it all.

I don't think I have ever read a book series quite like this one. It is definitely a love/hate relationship. I love all of these books with the love of a thousand fiery suns, but I also hate how much these authors can make me feel. I didn't realize I could be angry in real life, just because something made me angry in the book. These books come alive and they do not hold back. It's an emotional rollercoaster, but it's one that I don't want to get off of.

The character development arcs of the guys is phenomenal in Cursed Fates. Their arc has been slowly and steadily headed towards redemption, but they are almost at the finish line here. My favorite character is still Darius, but I digress. The guys are slowly and surely becoming some of my favorite characters, despite the fact that I loathed them in the first book. That's how you know a character development arc is fantastic. 

I am actually hesitant to start the next book, because the ending of this one is heartbreaking. I know these lovely authors will pull through in the end, but since this is an incomplete series I am super nervous. So, it may be a little bit before the next review for this series. Book 5.5 is amazing though and a great break from the heartbreak!

My parents are the best, they are super supportive with all of this writing madness me and Caroline have embarked upon and also dive in five hundred percent when my kids demand fairy hunts in the garden, an imaginary tea party or even a millionth rendition of Old McDonald Had A Farm and it’s thanks to them that I get the time to get any writing done at all 

I’ve got two cats who are always up to something and a few fish in a tank who seem to be living their best lives…and I think I’m out of interesting facts there….

This is book 2 in a dark romance series with love-hate themes, scenes of intense bullying, sexual scenes and may have triggers for some readers. It is a reverse harem which means the main character will end up with multiple partners.

I have a confession to make. I have not read a bad book from these authors yet, and this book did not disappoint. This is the second book in the Everlake Prep series, and it is primarily a bully romance/enemies to lovers romance. It's also a reverse harem (which I am kind of digging these days). I did not know if I was into bully romance, but I tried out Zodiac Academy (also from these lovely ladies) and I loved it. It made me feel so many emotions, which is not usually the case when I read. I normally read and enjoy the story, but am not usually affected by any particular emotions. Bully romance makes me feel everything; love, hate, embarrassment, etc etc. Bully romance is not for everyone, but if you enjoy it please do yourself a favor and look into these authors!

This second book is all about revenge. In the first book Tatum is humiliated and degraded by the main boys (Saint, Kyan, Blake) because they are trying to punish her for her fathers alleged injustice. But, they also want to protect her and have her be theirs in every sense of the word. Well, Tate decides that she will go along with their "punishments," but she will also give her own set of punishments back. 

This book had a lot of character development with the boys. I really enjoy Tatum's character because she is fierce and a badass, but she is also human. She slips up, makes mistakes, and then corrects them. She's also all about revenge and I love to see it. But, what I love about her is that she also have her limits when it comes to revenge; she's not a monster. She does some things, and she end sup regretting them, and that's okay. 

Overall, I 100% recommend this series. The first book in the series is Kings of Quarantine, so start there. Let me know what you think. Do you love or hate bully romance? Or, are you somewhere in between?
