All I’ve wanted since my abduction from Earth’s first long-range space flight is freedom from my alien captives. But when I’m sold off to a Rhonar warrior, I learn I'm not the only one enslaved on this hellish planet, and survival comes at a cost.

The dominant alpha alien they call Xelan may be my new master, but his fair dealings—and devilishly sexy charms—give me hope for the future.

If I can strike an agreement with the battle-scarred warrior, perhaps together we can change the destiny of those bound in chains.

And if I can’t—well, I haven’t backed down from a fight yet.

However, as enemies line up to destroy the alien warriors and subjugate the galaxy, I discover that the universe has a sense of humor.

Fated mates are real. And Xelan declares me his.

How can I attain my freedom if I’m tied to another being? Even if his possessive growls and single-minded attention ignite my desires in ways I’ve only dreamed, I cannot be his.

But how long can I fight the pull of a mating bond before I lose my head—and my heart—to the heat burning between us?

Only the stars know.

Alien’s Captive is a sci-fi romance launching two new series in the world of the Rhonar alien warriors. Will they find their brides? Steamy seduction, alien abduction, enemies-to-lovers, and a HEA guaranteed.

*I was given this book in exchange for an honest review*

So, I may or may not have devoured this book in a little less than 2 hours. I love Alien romances, especially ones with fated mates. This book had everything I could ever want, I just wish it was a little longer! I believe it's supposed to be a novella though, so no worries!

The book begins with Ava being in a cage. Apparently she had been on a mission to learn more knowledge for Earth when her ship was...? Abducted? I'm not sure. I wish there was a little bit more backstory on Earth, because it appears that Earth has more advanced technology (like a language chip), and that there is a unified World government. I believe that this book is supposed to act as a prequel for the rest of the series though, because at the end of this novella they are headed towards Earth. So, hopefully we get to learn more about Earth in the latter books in this new series.

Xelan and Ava are fated mates, so there is insta-love. Insta-love is okay (for me) in fated mates books though because it could be realistic (in their world at least) so the insta-love did not bother me. They seem to have a lot of chemistry, and I really enjoyed the chapters with them together. I am also intrigued by their race (the Rhonar alien warriors) only having two states: the hunger and the void. I'm curious to read more about these states in the upcoming books. There wasn't a lot of details about how those two states work, but I was able to draw a few conclusions.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone that loves Alien romances! I am actually really excited and eager to read the next book in the series.

Music soothes Levon Blackfoot’s soul. He lives for the rush of the crowd and the high of performing, but something’s missing. The music he loves isn’t working. It’s time to make some changes. Good thing it’s almost the New Year, the Haudeshaun. There’s no better a time to evaluate and pursue the woman he loves—Callie. Callie King has loved Levon since the moment they met, but a misunderstanding destroyed their relationship. If she can open her heart, they can have a second chance. She loves and needs him. Maybe Haudeshaun is the perfect time to get what she wants—Levon. Two broken people with a chance to start over at Haudeshaun—if they’re willing to try.

Read an Excerpt

The door opened and Callie ventured into the hotel room. “Hi.”
“Hi.” Sparks shot through Levon. Every time he laid eyes on her, he thought of the good times he’d shared with her and the way they came together to make love. She blew his mind like no other. She’d been in his visions, too.
“I heard you’re going to take a ten-day sabbatical. Do I need to set up anything for you? Or is this one of your trips where you drop off the face of the earth for a while?” she asked. She laced her fingers together and stared at him.
He craved her. From her deep brown hair to her toes, he wanted this woman. When she appraised him with her dark-eyed stare, he wanted to confess everything. He imagined the taste of her lips, the way she whimpered when they touched and the vision of her beneath him as they made love. She had curves in all the right places, that smile and just thinking about her touch sent shivers down his spine. He loved when she tucked against him as she slept—when they shared a bed—and her ability to give him a no-nonsense answer when they discussed music.
Fuck. He and Callie needed to clear the air because he needed her with him for the New Year’s festivities.
A vision formed in his mind. Him and Callie together for the New Year, a solid couple with nothing between them. She’d be his salvation—if she’d just let him in and let him prove he loved her.

[Book Review] Moon Touched by Elizabeth Briggs

Moon Touched

My fated mate rejected me—and now I've been captured by someone even worse.

As the half-human outcast of the Cancer pack, I've been beaten and bullied my whole life. Gaining my wolf form and my fated mate is my only chance to change packs and hope for a better life.

Except when my fated mate is revealed, he's the future alpha of the Leo pack—our worst enemies. He rejects me in front of everyone, just before the Leos slaughter my entire pack and murder my family.

I manage to escape, but then I'm kidnapped by a far greater threat: the alpha of the mysterious lost pack. The 13th sign was banished from the Zodiac Wolves years ago, and I thought they were just a myth.

They're real. They're holding me captive. And the dark, dangerous alpha is offering me something I can't refuse—revenge.

Moon Touched is the first book in a scorching hot wolf shifter trilogy, perfect for fans of Jaymin Eve, Laura Thalassa, and Amelia Hutchins.

I haven't read a book from Elizabeth Briggs that I haven't liked yet, and this book is no exception! I devoured this book within a few hours and I just could not put it down. Wolves? Check. Rejected mate? Check. Spice? Check check. Intense, brooding male? Check check check.

Ayla is a half human wolf that is continuously rejected by her alpha father and her pack due to the fact that she's a "half breed." During the convergence where she gains her wolf shifting ability, she also goes through the mating ritual to possible gain a mate. But, her mate is a a major jerk from the rival pack and he immediately rejects her despite the pull from the mate bond. She escapes from the pack showdown as the possible sole survivor and is "kidnapped" by the 13th Zodiac pack: aka the lost pack. Kaden is the alpha of the lost pack and wants to become part of the Zodiac packs again. But, they are the rejected pack so he makes a deal with Ayla to get revenge on her mate and the Leo pack, and in exchange she can train and become a part of his pack after multiple tests. Ayla has always felt rejected and like she doesn't belong, so Kaden's pack is perfect for her. Only downside? She is incredible attracted to Kaden, but he's not her mate so it's complicated. Their chemistry is scorching, and their characters are awesome. I loved Ayla and Kaden so much!

To me, this book had everything I want to read. It had great world building, plotline, characters, chemistry and spice. It does end on a cliffhanger, but the next book comes out next week so it's not too bad. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. Elizabeth, you've got me hooked on your books!

[Book Review] Ouija by EmmaLeigh Loader (Book 2) [RELEASE DAY]

Ouija

 Ava:

Kidnapped by a serial killer with an affinity for pain and madness.
Lost to a world created by a sick and twisted monster.
I died there, in the belly of the beast. But as the Fates willed it, I came back to life.
Now I’m under the King’s Wolves protection, fighting to determine what is real and what are broken delusions.
Hunted by the man who thought that he had killed me. Little does he know, I’m no longer his prey.
I’m under the thumb of a man living with gut-wrenching guilt, but can I convince him that nobody can hurt me any longer? Or will he drive us both into the ground with his fear?

Ouija:
My ‘cunning’ has always been revered as a gift. I’ve forever called it a curse.
My ‘knowing’ leads me to the gravesite of a woman who has plagued my dreams for sixteen years.
Buried alive, my self-loathing for this alleged gift only grows.
It’s something that I’ve suppressed and neglected—something that I’ve always feared. I’m human.
Nobody should have this ability. But living with the knowledge that I had a hand in her unfathomable torment and pain hardens my resolve.
Ava Delaney is mine. I’ve claimed her. I’ll reach into the deepest parts of me and learn how to control my gift if it means that I can stop the man who is hunting her.
Serial killers don’t like to lose.
He let her get away, and that’s his mistake—one that I’ll never make.
Out of all my brothers, I’m probably the one with the most humanity. When it comes to it, though, will I lose my Sapphire? Or will I learn in time to save her?

Trigger Warning-

Dark themes and tragic stories. My work will always be on the darker side, with happily-devil-afters. Degrees of dark and tragic vary. Soft to hard. I have no middle ground. There are no boundaries. It's where the story takes me. No cheating, my Heroines would eat their Alphas and then there would be no story. Know your worth! We'll love you anyway. I write paranormal fairy tales and dark romance for the dark hearted. Queen's in black kicking ass and King's on their knees, worshiping their women. And only their women. M/F.

So my question, will you take immortality by the hand? XOX- Emmaleigh.

Please note this is not a Paranormal series, however does contain Paranormal aspects as one of the characters is a seer.

Ouija is an insta love, fast burn novel. This is book two in the interconnecting Kings Wolves MC series.
Release date is purely for the intended use of a pre-order link and may be subject to change.

*I was provided a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review*

That was a wild ride! I really enjoyed this sequel to Savage. I liked Savage, but I loved Ouija. I felt like I could empathize with the characters more, and I enjoyed their personalities more than the first story. Because of this, I had a lot more fun reading this book! One of the things I didn't like in Savage was the wordiness. But, this book is more condensed and although there are a lot of descriptives, it flows in Ouija so it didn't detract from the story. So, if you didn't like Savage for that reason, I would definitely recommend giving Ouija a try! The story flows much better, and the internal monologue is not as wordy. I thought it was a perfect balance between show and tell.

Ava is tortured by a serial killer, but is saved by Ouija. Ouija has the sight, and he has been having visions of Ava since he was 12 years old. So, he is instantly in love with Ava (which I can understand, since he has seen visions of her for 16 years) but Ava is a little more slow at loving Ouija. I felt like this was realistic, and even though it's kind of "insta-love" it was not the annoying kind sometimes found in books. Also, Ava is strong, but she has to come into her strength. She comes into her inner strength throughout this book, and I really enjoyed that. Ava is probably my favorite character so far besides Stitch. Also, Ava and Ouija's love is adorable, and I loved the scenes between the two of them.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone that loves dark romance. This isn't a gushy romance, it's dark, but if you're into romance with a little more depth this is the book for you! Also, this book can technically be read as a standalone, but the first book, Savage, will give you more background information into the motorcycle club.

"So there was no way in fuck he'd be picking me out of the ranks. Which was a damn good thing as far as I saw it. Maybe when he died I really would be able to cut ties with this horror show of freaks and fuck ups. The problem was that in the meantime I was clearly going to be forced to entangle myself with them as deeply as possible and I wasn’t sure what kind of man I’d be once I came out the other side of that."

[Book Review] A Woman is No Man by Etaf Rum

A Woman is No Man

This debut novel by an Arab-American voice, takes us inside the lives of conservative Arab women living in America.

In Brooklyn, eighteen-year-old Deya is starting to meet with suitors. Though she doesn’t want to get married, her grandparents give her no choice. History is repeating itself: Deya’s mother, Isra, also had no choice when she left Palestine as a teenager to marry Adam. Though Deya was raised to believe her parents died in a car accident, a secret note from a mysterious, yet familiar-looking woman makes Deya question everything she was told about her past. As the narrative alternates between the lives of Deya and Isra, she begins to understand the dark, complex secrets behind her community.

This was my book club of the month's book, and I'm glad it was! I don't think I would have picked this book up if it were not for my book club, so thank you book club! This is an incredible book about the lives of Islamic women in pretty modern times. The POV goes between the 1990s and the 2000s and three generations of women. I really enjoyed this book because it gave me a perspective that I have never had before. I actually listened to the audiobook of this via Overdrive, and I really enjoyed the narration.

Deya is the daughter of Isra, and Fereeda is the mother in law of Isra. Isra was a Palestinian girl that was married in 1990 at the age of 17. She married Adam, and after her marriage she moved with Adam into their home in Brooklyn, along with his mom, dad, two brothers and sister. The occupy the basement of their Brooklyn home. Isra is shy, a bit naïve, and submissive to her new family. She only wants to please, and in doing so she ends up with four baby girls within 7 years. Isra just wants romance and happiness at the beginning of the book, but during her short lifespan she only experiences heartache and disappointment with her new life. She quickly learns that a woman is no man, and that a woman's place is to cook, clean and provide offspring. Unfortunately, Isra only provides baby girls, which only adds to her heartache. Deya is the eldest daughter of Isra and Adam and in 2008 she is trying to find her place in the world as a woman. Generations have continuously felt that women belong at home. But, Deya wants to go to college and be more than just a wife.

I really enjoyed the new cultural perspective presented in this book. I felt like I had an idea of what it was like to be a woman in their culture, but I honestly had no clue it can be so hard for them. They want to preserve their culture, but at the same time they want more for themselves. It must be a really tough decision for these women and their families.

Overall, I loved this book. My heart broke at the ending though. There were a few inconsistencies in dates and ages, but overall it was a great book and I am really thankful that I was able to experience this book.

Praise for HAVE YOU SEEN ME?

"Every five or ten years you'll read a book that'll grip you from start to end and you'll find you're up at 3am in the morning bewitched by the plot, the characters, and the setting. Have You Seen Me? is one such book, the pace is frenetic, urgent, and comes across as vividly telegenic. It takes a truly talented and masterful author to craft a novel which creates a three-dimensional drama inside your mind. Alexandrea Weis is one of the most talented authors around, she straddles several genres, and in a short time her novels are destined to stand along with authors such as Stephen King, Gillian Flynn, Joyce Carol Oates, and Jeffery Deaver." The Strand Magazine

"With atmosphere, mercurial threats, and intrigue, Alexandrea Weis excels in probing the psychological undertones of the prep school and a new teacher's return to her past. She also does a fine job of evolving the plot that connects students and teachers to an unpredictable truth. As school and local history are revealed by the determined team, readers receive an eerie feel of inevitable disaster much in the manner of the classic film 'Picnic at Hanging Rock'. The buildup that leads to the truth about the killer's identity makes for a fine story that will reach from young adult to adult audiences with a winning exploration of prep school pressures, politics, and the special interests that lead to murder. Very nicely done." D. Donovan, Senior Editor, Midwest Book Review

"Riveting, fast paced thriller wrapped up in a mystery. Is history repeating itself or is it a coincidence? Alexandrea Weis slowly peels away layer after layer to reveal the truth. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it even if you don't usually read thrillers." Erin E. Forys, Barnes and Noble, Williamsburg, VA

"Alexandrea Weis addresses cultural issues such as class systems, race, and bullying all the while providing chilling and spooky imagery that is sure to have all readers begging the question: "Who will be next?" A thrilling spine-tingling novel Have You Seen Me? had my heart racing on every page." Tanya Roberts @bookswihtanya, CER at Indigo Books, Québec Canada

"A fast-paced thriller that will engage readers with great characters and a chilling mystery! I was sucked in and fully invested in finding the killer!!" Gretchen Hall, Barnes and Noble, Houston, TX

"A dark, complex tale of psychological suspense that will captivate and thrill readers, especially those who love slashers!" Monique Snyman, Bram Stoker Awards Nominee

"...capably written with a vibrant setting that feels lived-in and starts off with an intriguing mystery ... that leads to a shocking revelation." IndieReader

Lindsey Gillett is missing.

And she’s not the first girl at Waverly High to vanish without a trace.

To help cope with the tragedy, new history teacher Aubrey LaRoux organizes a student investigation team. But when the project’s key members start turning up dead across campus, Aubrey suspects there’s more going on than anyone is willing to admit.
*I received a copy of Have You Seen Me? in exchange for an honest review.*

All I can say is that was an intense ride from start to finish! I was so engrossed in the book, that by the end I was just suspicious of everyone. Aubrey? Sheriff? Bella? Sara? Samuel? IT COULD BE ANYONE. I trusted no one and everyone could be the killer.

I was pleasantly surprised by the slasher aspects of the novel. When it showed the persons dying POV I was shocked. Usually when you get a POV like that, the person survives. But, nope. You get a pretty detailed, and graphic account of their last few seconds of life and dying thoughts. It created a powerful and unique aspect to this novel that actually upped the rating from 4 to 5 stars. Another aspect that created a five star experience was the emotional roller-coaster that I went through as a reader. Usually I suspect someone from the get go (which I did this time and was actually right), BUT in this novel I was constantly questioning every single character. I had my main suspect, but by the end I didn't trust a soul.

I really enjoyed the characters in this novel and how they were all together as a mosh up of all different types of personalities. I also enjoyed that Aubrey was believable as a teacher, but as a mentor to the kids. She had to hold back at first because she was primarily their teacher, but throughout the investigation she had some slip ups into friend territory. And, which everything they had going on, I felt like this made her feel more real. I didn't get too attached to any of the characters, because I knew after the first death that most of them were going to die, I could just feel it in my bones. I was right. But, I still was sad after each of their deaths. I felt like I was there with them during the investigation and their deaths. I was invested and was always sad when another one was picked off.

This book gave me "I know what you did last Summer" vibes, except they did nothing wrong. The killer is just a literal psycho with an entirely skewed moral compass. Those poor kids. If I had one critique, it would be that the big reveal was too short. The killer got their just desserts, but I wish I would have gotten more of their perspective as to why they thought they HAD to do this, rather than them just being crazy and thinking the kids knew their secret. I just wanted a little more of their viewpoint.

Overall, this is an excellent mystery novel. The writing is skillful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are great, and I am looking forward to reading more novels by Alexandrea Weis.

The murdered students all had something in common with Lindsey. They shared a secret. And what they uncovered could threaten the future of the historic school.

At Waverly High, someone wants to keep the past buried—and you don’t want to get in their way.
