The main character of this story was 14 years old, and at the end she was 15 years old. I haven't been that old in over a decade, so at times it was hard to relate to her story. I will say that the author did an excellent job at capturing the inner thoughts of a young teenager. Some authors can tend to over mature their characters (as it can be hard to relate to an age we are no longer) but I think the author did an excellent job encapsulating the inner workings of young teenagers. With that being said, this novel is short and the writing is a bit juvenile, but that's okay! This isn't meant to be an adult book, and I think the writing is just perfect for the targeted age group.
There are two main characters in this book: Becca and Lennox. Lennox is whisked away to the Half blood Academy for demigods and Becca is on another planet searching for a flower. Their stories have not converged yet, but the cliffhanger indicates that they will soon. Their characters are a bit rudimentary in this first book, but I have no doubt that the author has left room for their growth. It's hard to fit a lot of character development in a shorter novel. I felt that Becca's POV was a bit slow, but I really enjoyed learning about the academy, and I am excited to learn more about it in the next book.
The world presented in The Seeker's Core is interesting. It seems that there are multiple planets and people can travel between them with relative ease. There also seems to be a lot of advanced technology utilized by everyone, such as portals and food synthesizers. I would like for the author to expand more on the world building, because I was a bit confused and had to piece together the world bit by bit.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys the academy trope and are looking for a fun and light YA novel. I am excited to see where the author goes with this series.
