From New York Times best-selling author Lexi Ryan, Cruel Prince meets A Court of Thorns and Roses in this sexy, action-packed fantasy about a girl who is caught between two treacherous faerie courts and their dangerously seductive princes.
Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she'll do whatever it takes to get her back—including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court.
Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie's only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. As Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she struggles to resist his seductive charm.
Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.
I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it's a great book and has an amazing plotline and world building, but on the other hand the characters can be a tad infuriating. The main female character, Brie, flips between the two males like a fish out of water. I was getting whiplash trying to keep up with her feelings for the two guys. Also, Sebastian leaves a lot to be desired. He's the cookie cutter "boy I grew up with that's as sweet as can be, but I don't think he feels that way about me" character. I enjoyed Finn, but his secrecy was a bit too much. He came on a little too strong from the get go. What I'm trying to say, is that I actually did not have a favorite. But, by the ending I had someone I absolutely despised. Like, what the heck?
If you enjoy the ACOTAR series I would check this out. It has a lot of similarities, and I believe a lot of fans would enjoy this series as well. The world is has 3 settings. There's the human world where they treat people like slaves and they have contracts where they can buy and sell them like they're objects, and then you have the Unseelie and Seelie courts. Supposedly the Unseelie are the bad guys and the Seelie are the okay guys. Fae in general are seen as untrustworthy, especially because Brie lost her mom to her Fae lover, so she holds a lot of resentment towards them. Brie ends up in the Seelie courts though because her sister was sold to the Unseelie king. She has to gain objects from the Seelie courts for the Unseelie king in order to free her sister, so she has to get the Seelie prince to fall in love with her. And hence, the entire premise and dilemma of the story.
Overall, I would say that I really did enjoy the book, and I am anxious for the next book in the series. With that in mind, the ending made me furious and I hope Brie destroys a certain Fae of the male persuasion.
