[Book Review] Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalo (Book 2)

From #1 New York Times bestselling author of Stalking Jack the Ripper Kerri Maniscalco comes the sizzling, sweepingly romantic sequel to Kingdom of the Wicked!

One sister.Two sinful princes.
Infinite deception with a side of revenge…Welcome to Hell.

After selling her soul to become Queen of the Wicked, Emilia travels to the Seven Circles with the enigmatic Prince of Wrath, where she’s introduced to a seductive world of vice.

She vows to do whatever it takes to avenge her beloved sister, Vittoria...even if that means accepting the hand of the Prince of Pride, the king of demons.

The first rule in the court of the Wicked? Trust no one. With back-stabbing princes, luxurious palaces, mysterious party invitations, and conflicting clues about who really killed her twin, Emilia finds herself more alone than ever before. Can she even trust Wrath, her one-time ally in the mortal world...or is he keeping dangerous secrets about his true nature?

Emilia will be tested in every way as she seeks a series of magical objects that will unlock the clues of her past and the answers she craves...

Whew! The author upped everything in this novel. The character development, the world building, and the writing was all phenomenal in this sequel. Also, that cliffhanger was intense. I actually listened to this book through audible, and the narration is amazing. It actually added another layer to the story in my opinion.

Wrath and Emilia are one of my favorite couples. I love the world that they come from, and I really enjoy that Emilia has hobbies that don't include Wrath. She talks about food in almost a lyrical sense, and it make sit feel like she is an actual person rather than a character. This book focused a lot on her internal monologue going between her betrothal and the need to avenge her sister. I believed that also helped to round her character our, because she was conflicted, as most people would be. Wrath also grew as a character in this book because we were able to see how much he cares for Emilia, not just in words, but in actions. I always hate the male characters that use flowery words to show their love, but never actually do anything to prove their words. Wrath is a man of few words, but big actions, and I enjoyed this about his character.

Overall, I really liked this sequel to Kingdom of the Wicked. I am really looking forward to the next in the series, and I can't wait to see where Wrath and Emilia's relationship goes.

I'm mostly on instagram--where I'm always ready to talk fictional crushes and nerd out over books. (Okay, okay. And I've also been known to share snippets and teasers from my upcoming novels, if you're into that sort of thing...) Please feel free to chat with me there @KerriManiscalco. I love talking with fellow readers!

Kerri Maniscalco grew up in a semi-haunted house outside NYC where her fascination with gothic settings began. In her spare time she reads everything she can get her hands on, cooks all kinds of food with her family and friends, and drinks entirely too much tea while discussing life’s finer points with her cats.

She is the #1 NYT and USA Today bestselling author of the STALKING JACK THE RIPPER quartet. The final installment, CAPTURING THE DEVIL, will be released on 9/10/19. KINGDOM OF THE WICKED, the first in a new YA fantasy series, is slated for fall 2020.
